I am so fucking done with you people...

I’m so done with you people. And by “you people”, I mean every one of you self-indulgent, whiny, possessed of an overweening sense of entitlement, self-absorbed ass-hats who STILL refuse to wear a fucking mask or get fucking vaccinated.

I was a nurse in an ICU tasked with caring for COVID 19 patients. For nearly a year and a half, we fought for every COVID 19 patient that came through our doors. Many died...some made it to an LTAC to attempt vent weaning and PT/OT. Many of them died as well, mostly from secondary infections and the other sequelae of COVID 19. But after vaccines became widely available, things changed with the Delta variant.

We saw younger patients coming into our unit. And the outcomes were much as I described above. But the common denominator was that the most of them were unvaccinated. Those vaccinated patients that did come to us were already immunocompromised and had multiple comorbidities, predisposing them to COVID 19 infection regardless of their vaccine status.

As the Delta variant surged across the country, the talking heads in Right-Wing World began their drumbeat of “Well if people are getting infected…the vaccines don’t work!”. They very conveniently left out the fact that most of those infections were among unvaccinated individuals, as were most of the deaths. They also failed…deliberately…to provide context. That context being that NO vaccine is 100% effective. There will always be those for whom a vaccine does not provide complete protection. There will always be a small number of breakthrough infections. Vaccines give our immune systems the tools they need to limit the duration and severity of COVID 19 infection.

As to mask usage, multiple studies show a significant decrease in the community spread of COVID 19 as a result of high compliance mask use. IN any pandemic involving and airborne pathogen, mask use is about SOURCE CONTROL, the source being the individual wearing a mask. Masks trap the aerosolized droplets we produce with normal respiration, talking, coughing, or sneezing. If one is infected and shedding COVID 19, the virus particles they are shedding will be similarly trapped, thus limiting the exposure of others to the virus. Simple mask can also limit one’s exposure to the exhalations of an unmasked individual, but it is far more effective…up to 90% effective…in preventing direct person to person transmission of COVD 19.

But do you think ANY of this makes ANY difference to the multitudes of anti-mask/vaxx morons wandering around out there waiting to be the petri dish the next for the variant, after Omicron, that will completely defeat current vaccines and leave us back at square one? No. It doesn’t. They can stop making sheep noises at me at the grocery store, they’re the ones cornering the market on Ivermectin, after all. They can stop whining about their “rights” being “violated” by a “tyrannical and over-reaching government” because their right to be self-indulgent, narcissistic, ass-clowns ENDS where public health and safety begins. They can protect themselves by getting vaccinated and protect everyone around them by wearing a mask. But they won’t. They won’t because to do so would be an admission that they are wrong, and they can never admit that because the QAnon/GOP bubble they live in would come crashing down round them.

So, if our anti-mask/vaxx neighbors refuse to assume the responsibility demanded of citizens living in a civil during a pandemic, the worst to hit our shores since 1918, they need do us all a favo Stay home…take some aspirin…let your natural immune system deal with the COVID and stop clogging hospital emergency departments and ICU's…and maybe you’ll just have a mild case…or not.
