The future of the GOP: It has one?

In the wake of the November 2020 election, the GOP could have done some serious soul searching and change the direction of the party. Instead, Republicans towards the dark side. They embraced the murderously, malignantly narcissistic depravity of Donald…fucking…Trump. No longer the “Party of Lincoln” or even Eisenhower, the GOP has turned it’s back on democracy and has become a corrupt, decayed, shambling corpse, fouled by Trump’s utter corruption and depravity.

In the weeks following November 3, 2020, the orange-hued shit-gibbon’s campaign filed more than 60 lawsuits challenging the outcome of the election of which, all but one, were thrown out of court. And, in every case brought before the Supreme Court by Donnie’s toadies and lick-spittles, they were told…in the most legalistic terms possible to “Fuck off…”. But that didn’t deter them as they lobbied states to “find votes”, which was again fruitless and have resulted in a criminal investigation into Cheetolini’s efforts to “attempts to overturn Georgia’s election results, including a phone call he made to Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger”. And then came January 6, 2021.

In the months and weeks leading up to the election the mendacious shitweasel did his level best to undermine the election and cast doubts on the outcome, and that the election would be “stolen” due to massive voter fraud which, as it turns out, never came to pass as the boards of election in all 50 states, Republican and Democratic, certified the election results in Biden’s favor. Far from being deterred, Donnie and his coterie of sycophants, brown-nosers and boot-lickers hatched a plan to have a rally in Washington on January 6, 2021…the day Congress was scheduled to meet to certify the election results. “Be there, it will be wild!”, the dictator wannabe tweeted.

Donnie and his campaign’s efforts at sedition bore fruit that day, as Congress met to certify the results of that hold-over of slavery, the Electoral College. A morning of incitement followed as Trump loyalists inveighed the already surly, and increasingly so, crowd to “STOP THE STEAL”. Throughout the morning’s incitement, we were treated the spectacle of Rudy Giuliani screeching “Let’s have trial by combat!”, like some shriveled, demented goblin capering on the stage.

Trial By Combat

And then, comes Donnie himself, in all his orange depravity, repeating the BIG LIE, “We won this election, and we won it by a landslide. This was not a close election.”, and “We’re going to walk down to the Capitol and we’re going to cheer on our brave senators and Congressmen and women”, the implication being that the safety of those who didn’t vote to install him for another term would be forfeit. And so, the sedition of Trump and his allies led to the deadly insurrection of 1/6/2021.

Capital Insurrection TimeLine

The kicker here is that after the bloody insurrection and 5 deaths that day, including a Capitol Police Officer, when the insurrectionists were cleared from the offices, chambers and halls of Congress, some 138 of the Republicans in Congress STILL voted against certifying the election and perpetuating the Umber Golem’s BIG LIE about a stolen election. Something many continue to do to this very day, may their names live in infamy for as long as this Nation endures.

 The GOP Sedition Caucus

Joe Biden and Kamala Harris were sworn in without further ado, but the Republicans had other plans in mind as. In GOP dominated state legislatures across the country, more than 360 bills restricting voting rights have been introduced. These bills contain provisions which will adversely impact the ability of minority and poor voters to cast their ballots and place onerous restrictions on the ability of these voters to meet the ID requirements to vote. Welcome to the more genteel version of Jim Crow. Unable to secure the votes they need, especially in the face of the inevitable demographic shift that will leave white Americans a minority in less than a generation, Republicans are working feverishly to decide just who gets to vote, and ensure those votes are for them.

GOP Voting Restrictions

Further violations of Constitutional rights, particularly the First Amendment rights to peaceable assembly and to petition government for a redress of grievances have been passed into law in Florida, Oklahoma and Iowa. The kicker here? The Oklahoma and Iowa laws give the green light to vehicular homicide as those who drive their vehicles into crowds of protesters are shielded from liability for the consequences of their actions. And, surprise, Texas is considering such a measure in their anti-protest legislation.

Vehicular Homicide? No problem.

So, what is the future for the GOP? Why anyone gives a shit about the party’s future is beyond me. It is an ambulatory, hollowed out, defiled corpse that needs a stake driven though its heart. They had the opportunity to cut the cord to the debauched, depraved, corrupt and murderously malignant narcissist that is Donald…fucking…Trump, but they refused to do so. They will appeal to the basest instincts of the MAGA monkeys and their fear of the impending, inevitable demographic shift that will leave them a minority. They will do whatever it takes to maintain a strangle-hold on political power and white privilege, even if it means destroying Democracy and the Republic in the process. And THAT is something Democratic party leaders, at all levels, had better wake up to, and right quick at that. If they don’t, God help us all come 2022.
